As a piano teacher with 30 years of experience, I’ve learned that

Music education for children wasn’t made for sitting down all day long…

Or at least it shouldn’t.

The leading music school in Surrey specializing in group piano classes.

Aria Music Studio began with one mission:

To provide best-in-class music education where each student can experience a feeling of self-worth, belonging, achievement & a lifetime of enjoyment.

Founded in 1995 by Andrea Mesana, she had the inspiration to pivot towards an alternative way of teaching as she saw what was missing in traditional private music education.

Years after graduating from the University of Victoria’s music school and completing her training under the Royal Conservatory of Music, Andrea worked as a Montessori teacher.

There, she noticed how children best learned through engaging multiple sensory systems—touch, hear, see, etc.—and in the company of other children.

And yet, when she would teach private music lessons, it’s the complete opposite—students learned through worksheets and basic music theory, often while isolated from other children.

“[Andrea] has a deepened understanding of how people learn.”

“Our son, Aaron was lucky to experience her teaching that made his piano journey an enjoyable and rewarding one. Aaron was transformed into a musician today not only because of Ms. Andrea’s incredible patience, making learning fun, and exuding genuine joy in teaching her students.”

— SHEILA T.

What drew Andrea into music at age 5 was the fun that came from mastering a timeless instrument…

…and making music that she could enjoy with others.

That’s why in 2021, after 26 years of teaching piano to students who have gone on to compete at music festivals and earn top marks at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Andrea decided to go full into primarily group classes focused on whole-body learning…

To teach piano to children in a way that transcends their intellectual & musical abilities…

That teaches them the beauty of co-creating with others…

And to impart the fact that learning music within the company of peers isn’t only fun—it’s fulfilling.

Today, Aria Music Studio is home to 100+ students between the ages of 4 to 14 (most of whom are siblings!).

They come to play music for their peers and families at showcases and recitals…

Confident in the skills they’ve developed & playing for the fun of musical expression…

And we want to help your child do the same.

If this is something you dream of for your child, we’d love to have you in our studio.

Whether you’re a student, teacher, or parent, these are the values we expect everyone to uphold:

Parental co-learning

Parent support is essential to a student’s success, which is why we actively involve parents in the learning process. By learning alongside their child, parents can support consistent progress, helping their child develop a deeper enjoyment and love for the piano!

Collaborative environment

Foster a sense of belonging by creating a supportive, collaborative environment where students/teacher/parents learn from each other.

Growth mindset

Promote resilience and persistence by emphasizing effort and progress over perfection, empowering students to embrace challenges.

Structured play

Balance structured practice with engaging activities, making the process both rewarding and enjoyable.

At the heart of our teaching philosophy is the belief in a three-way collaboration between parent, teacher, and student…

Even if your child is naturally gifted in music.

Before we get into learning music or practicing technique, we want to make sure that your child can flourish within our group classes, enjoy creating music with peers, and feel supported in and out of the classroom.

We believe that creating an environment that nurtures your child’s overall development and challenges them beyond their comfort zone is the best way to build the tenacity needed in their adult years.
